The Nigeria-Britain Association (N-BA), in partnership with GMYT Fashion Academy, recently organised a fashion design programme for young people between the ages of 18 and 30.

The association, which has been in existence for 49 years, is a friendship platform that fosters relationship between Nigerians and Britons through fashion, art, sports, education and music.

President of the association, Shola Tinubu, at a press briefing in Lagos noted that the group was not a business or trade group, adding, “Our main events are Akintola Williams National Youth Debate, for secondary schools in Nigeria, N-BA Annual Lecture which addresses the needs of the society especially the youth, Presidential Cocktails, N-BA Meet-Up which brings together members and leads to network, collaborate in a relaxed atmosphere.”

Commenting on the association’s key focus on the youths, the president said, “we will be able to reach out to touch lives of more passionate and industrious youth by implementing sustainable programmes geared towards our main objectives of the association.”

The fashion competition tagged ‘expression’ had 14 participants from about five states, where five finalists emerged after one month.

The grand finale held last Saturday in Lagos and Miss Bukola Adeogun emerged the winner.

Tinubu stated, “Miss Adeogun gets six months of advanced fashion design training at GMYT Fashion Academy, an industrial machine, 3 months mentorship with a fashion icon Adeola Sagoe and also gets to showcase her designs for the first time at the N-BA Presidential Cocktails.”

He further said that the Presidential Cocktail, one of the key signature events of the association would hold on Thursday, September 27, to be attended by the British Deputy High Commissioner, who is the Chief Host, top executives of Nigeria and British companies and well-meaning Nigerians and Britons.

The association has three categories of membership; corporate, individual and youth members, and has about 220 members across the categories.

To qualify as a member, Tinubu said it was based on nomination by a member, after which the council admits.

He added that the association is looking to have more young members.

For the winner, and CEO of Bukola Neville Clothings, the opportunity given her is the major achievement of her life.

“This is a platform for me to rediscover myself, having Adeola Sagoa mentor me is priceless,” she added.
