The fast-developing industrial town of Agbara in Ado-Odo, Ota, Ogun State was agog last weekend when the high and mighty in the country’s socio-economic and political hub gathered to honour the benevolent royal father, Oba Lukman Jayeola Agunbiade, the newly installed Alagbara of Agbara land, as he received his staff of office from Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

His joy was limitless on the day, as he played host to eminent Nigerians from far and near. The weeklong event had kicked off on Tuesday, August 16 with environmental sanitation, youth cultural activities and acrobatic dance.

There was a world press conference on Wednesday, which coincided with a novelty match that drew out the people. The event continued on Thursday with Agasha traditional dance, which had a live band performance by Alhaji Alani Wasiu Omoarowona.

The dancing jamboree continued on Friday after the Jumat service, where Igunuko traditional dance was on display by Akanmo band, reeling out several steps to the admiration of many.

The grand finale held last Saturday, with top Fuji act, Saheed Osupa, on the band stand, before a thanksgiving at All Saints Church, Agbara climaxed the celebration. It was, indeed, a week of fun and razzmatazz, as Oba Agunbiade was officially crowned as the paramount ruler of Agbara Kingdom.

The Oba, in his remarks, said he was happy and full of joy on the historical and memorable occasion of his official installation and presentation of the instrument of appointment and staff of office.

According to him: “Today’s event is indeed an epoch-making event, which will go down in the history of Agbara town in particular and Ogun State in general. “I will like to thank God for making today a great and historical day in my life, as I accept with highest humility and sense of responsibility, to serve my people as the Alayeluwa, Oba Alagbara of Agbara Kingdom.

“I now see that truly, my journey to this throne is divine and designed by Almighty God.”The monarch thanked Amosun for the approval of his nomination, selection and subsequent election by Agbara kingmakers. The Oba, a lawyer and chartered accountant, is a man of deep wisdom, compassion and strength of character and with vision that it takes to steer the ship of Agbara Kingdom and surpass his predecessors.
