Wole Soyinka’s surprise appearance at felabration
Legendary playwright, Wole Soyinka, made a surprise appearance at the finale of Felabration last Sunday. A cousin of the late revolutionary African musician, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, in whose honour Felabration is held every year, the excited literature professor and 1986 Nobel Laureate in Literature, who is the first African to be so honoured in that category, said: “I am happy to be here to celebrate Fela with everyone.”
The festival, which ran for seven days at the New Afrika Shrine in Omole, Ikeja, Lagos, was put together to celebrate the life and times of the great Fela. Other music stars such as Shina Peters, Adewale Ayuba, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tekno, Adekunle Gold, Simi, Wande Coal and Runtown, among others, graced the stage.
