Considering how she had wanted to start a family for a long time now, singer, Janet Jackson, 49 is reportedly pregnant with her first child, just some days to her 50th birthday.

Although, she is yet to publicly confirm it, a source shared the news to Entertainment Tonight. This is their first child as couple. She had secretly married Wissam Al Mana, 41, a retailing tycoon in 2012, but didn’t confirm they’d wed until early 2013.

The pop star, who will be 50 on May 16, 2016, had last month postponed her Unbreakable tour, but instead of directly addressing pregnancy rumors, she released a video for her new single, aptly titled Dammn Baby, and posted on her Twitter handle that she want to start a family with her husband, Al Mana.

“We’re in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change,” she told her fans via a video on Twitter on April 6. “I thought it was important that you be the first to know. My husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour,” she wrote.

She added, “Please, if you could try and understand that it’s important that I do this now. I have to rest up, doctor’s orders. But I have not forgotten about you; I will continue the tour as soon as I possibly can.”

A source told E! News the pregnancy is in the second trimester, adding that the couple have been working with a fertility specialist in a bid to have a child. Fertility specialist Zita West, founder of the Zita West Fertility Clinic, which is known for its holistic approach to natural fertility and IVF, explained to the MailOnline that at the age of 49, the chances of getting pregnant naturally are really slim.

“At over 45, many women I see will choose the route of egg donation through which they have far greater success not only of getting pregnant but actually having a baby. The biggest barrier for fertility and conception is age, and the odds are stacked heavily against any woman trying to conceive who is over the age of 45,” West said.

Dr. Sherry Ross, an OB/GYN and Women’s Health Expert at Providence Satin John’s Health Care Center in Santa Monica, CA revealed to HollywoodLife.com that “if a 49 year old woman were to get pregnant, even though IVF, the chance is less than one percent with her own genetics, meaning her own 49 year-old-egg.

“But lets say she may have frozen her eggs 10 years ago when she was still in her 30s. It’s possible this is her own genetics or the more likely option is that she may be using a donor egg. So it’s very likely that due to Janet’s age, she used a donor egg to conceive or perhaps she even froze her own eggs! But no matter how it happened, it’s certainly incredible news,” she added.

Though, it is yet to be ascertained how the All For You singer got conceived, whether it is through in vitro fertilization (IVF), as the treatment is common among women over 40. Each IVF attempt costs approximately $20,000, according to Forbes, but the procedure is only successful approximately 40 percent of the time

Janet Jackson had on Christmas Eve 2015, announced a delay in her North American tour, saying that she needed an urgent operation, and gave no other clarification other than to deny rumors she had cancer.

In 2013, it was reported that the couple had been looking into adopting a child from a developing country. A source close to the singer told UsWeekly: “She now pretty much knows pregnancy is not in the cards, so she’s been looking into adopting. She’s been very moved by the events in Jordan and Syria now that she’s been living overseas.”

In an interview with Harpner’s Bazaar Magazine in 2009, Janet then-single said: “I think that if I’m really supposed to have kids it will happen, if that’s God’s plan for me. I would hope my legacy would be bringing smiles to faces, happiness with my music. Also, to make babies. I’ve had so many people come up to me and say, my child was conceived by listening to your music.”

Janet Jackson has been married three times, to James DeBarge as a teenager and to choreographer René Elizond, which ended in divorce in 2000. She released Unbreakable last year, her first album since the 2009, after death of her brother, Michael Jackson.

The famed singer’s songs Together Again and If, have been heating up the Billboard charts for decades, earning her millions. With numerous hit records under her belt, it’s no surprise Janet Jackson’s net worth is $175 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, which reports on celebrity earnings.

Wissam Al Mana, meanwhile, has a net worth of $1 billion. The Qatari-born entrepreneur earned his fortune from his family’s real estate holdings. His family has invested in some of fashion’s biggest names, including Dolce & Gabbana, Balenciaga and Giorgio Armani.

Like Barbra Streisand and Bruce Springsteen, Janet Jackson has the honour of having No. 1 albums in each of the past four decades. Seven of her albums have reached the top spot on the Billboard charts, including her latest, Unbreakable. Previous hit records include Discipline, All For You, The Velvet Rope, Janet, Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 and Control.
