Jeffy Brown: ‘I get motivation from music legends’

Upcoming Afro pop artiste, Jeffy Brown has said that he gets motivated from old and new music legends including King Sunny Ade, Tuface Idibia, P-Square, and Don Jazzy among others.

The fast rising music act, who recently released a new single titled, You and I, said he desire to work with music producer and Marvin Record chief, Don Jazzy. The Niger Delta indigene, whose real names are Paul Jeffery Brown Wilfred, disclosed that he was brought up in Lagos, and the seventh child of his parents.

He discovered his talent when he was eight years old, and at 19, he decided to go into music as career after his secondary education. According to him, the musical contents of old musicians is richer in meaning and evergreen, while that of the new school is less contents but have a lot of followership, beats and more endorsement from corporate organisations.

“Working with Don Jazzy has been my greatest dream and I hope God will see me through it in this 2016. However, I get motivation from old and new music legends like King Sunny Ade, Tuface, P-square, and Don Jazzy. We can’t do without both classes.

Tracing his music journey, Jeffy recalled: “I started music quite early age, but I doing it professionally 2014.Though he endured staggered in his music through financial and other setbacks but am elated that I have two singles to my credits. Apart from financial challenges, my parents did not support me initially because they wanted me to finish my school and concentrate on my education, but today they give me all the support I need now,” he said.

According to him, his brand of music is Afro pop, with a fusion of all genres of music to get eclectic feel of his sound. “I want to touch lives in Nigeria and across the world through good music. My inspiration comes from God, my life experiences, things and people around me.

“I just want to affect people and the environment positively my music; I don’t play one genre, I’m kind of universal and versatile. I do R&B, Pop, Afro Pop, and dancehall among others. My role models in music include King Sunny Ade, TuFace, P-Square, Don Jazzy, and on the foreign scene, acts like Chris Brown, Drake, R Kelly and J-Zay. I hope to become a mega music star in five years time,” he added.

Having performed at upscale hangouts including Ember Creek, Freedom Pack, Climax, and Ocean view among other places and events, the budding act says though government has supported the music industry, more still need to be done to boost the industry.

Assessing the Nigerian music industry, Brown said that some musicians use lewd languages, meaningless lyrics and parade ladies dancing nude.
