Lagos hots up for AMVCAs 2018

Lagos, the entertainment capital of Nigeria is currently in frenzy ahead of the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) holding later today, at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoris Island. Already, stakeholedrs in African film industry, as well as jourmalists from different African countries are all in town for the pan-African ceremony, which will be broadcast live on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv from 4pm West African Time (WAT).

The AMVCA, which debuted in 2013, is the biggest celebration of film and television talent across Africa. Now in its sixth edition, the show promises to be even bigger with top contenders from across the continent vying for honors in the voting and non-voting categories.

Lighting up the stage at the event are some of Nigeria’s biggest and award-winning musicians, including songwriter and producer, Cobhams Asuquo, rapper and songwriter Falz and highlife singer Adekunle Gold.

Cobhams Asuquo, who recently released the video to his hit single, One Hit, will captivate audiences with his powerful vocals, while versatile rapper Falz TheBahdGuy will bring his signature sound and high energy on stage performing some of his most loved songs. Meanwhile, alternative singer-songwriter, Adekunle Gold, who is still fresh off his sophomore album, About 30, will also perform alongside his band, The 70th Element.

The night promises an exciting and diverse line-up of stellar performances as viewers will also get to see live on stage the SEKI traditional dance troupe. The dance drama group are heavily influenced by traces of American tap dance which originate from five different masquerade groups of the lower Niger Delta area of Nigeria. On the opposite end of the spectrum, will be a classical performance by Omo Bello, the award-winning Nigerian soprano and a special performance by singer and Big Brother Naija 2017 alumni, Bisola Aiyeola.

The awards will once again be co-hosted by South African media practitioner, Minnie Dlamini-Jones and Nigerian on-air-personality, IK Osakioduwa. For two years, the lovely duo has thrilled guests and viewers as hosts of the AMVCAs with their brilliant synergy, charm and infectious wit.

With the primary focus of the event being the recognition and rewarding of film and television talent for their outstanding work, viewers can look forward to their favourite stars lifting awards for categories like Best Actor/Actress, Best Producer and the most coveted award, Movie of the Year.

Meanwhile, to herald the event, Africa Magic in association with MultiChoice recently hosted this year’s nominees and sponsors to an exclusive cocktail party at the Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos.

The event which had popular media personality, IK Osakioduwa as host had in attendance some of Nollywood’s biggest names including Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Odunlade Adekola, Kunle Afolayan, Hilda Dokubo, Adesua Etomi, Linda Ejiofor and many others.

Also present at the event were 2018 AMVCA nominees, media personalities, celebrities including ex-housemates of Big Brother Naija editions. The 2018 AMVCAs is proudly sponsored by Konga and Airtel.
