The wedding almost never happened, no thanks to court injunctions, wild media war and pastoral blacklists working together to frustrate the pair’s plan to tie the knot.

Previously married Prince Odi had a bitter ex-wife to deal with, and the court of public opinion was vehemently against the union.

Friends advised Mercy to call it quits. Unsolicited counsel came from bloggers and colleagues. The church threatened not to join them together.

But like the plot of a Nollywood movie, the actress went on and got married to the Benin, Edo State-born prince on August 27, 2011. “She must be out of her senses,” many had said at the time. And the actress’s sixth wedding anniversary message, few days ago, confirmed she has ignored her sense of reasoning and taken the leap.

It is now six years since that wedding took place, and many contracted after theirs have already packed up. While it was surrounded by controversy, their marriage has so far been free from drama. They have so far nutured three children together.
