The narratives that some of the players of the vibrant Nollywood industry have offered in recent time are not only well explored but they have come through as very satisfying and captivating fare.

Movies like Blessing Egbe’s ‘The Women’ and Ishaya Bako’s ‘Hotel Hibiscus’ are fairly well referenced examples of movies that cinemagoers say they have found entertaining.

There are more of such entertaining fares in the wings and one of them is the one of the most anticipated movie of 2018 titled ‘Seven and a Half Dates’.

Produced by Toyin Abraham, Directed by Biodun Stephen and Written by Joy Isi Bewaji with the celebrated media entrepreneur, Samuel Olatunji of Broadway TV Production fame as executive producer, the romantic drama follows the story of a young lady who was set up on several blind dates by her father in a bid to find true love.

Set for a world premiere on August 3, here is a profile of five of the leading ladies of the movie whose stellar performances contributed in making the movie tick.

Toyin Abraham 

A multi-award winning actress and one actress that has successfully signed two box office hit as producer, Toyin Abraham is set to break yet another box office record, for the second time this year with ‘Seven And A Half Dates’.

The beautiful, multitalented and actress, has proven with the outcome of those two box office hits – Alakada Reloaded and The Ghost and The Tout that she is definitely a force to be reckoned with in the movie industry.

Distinguished as one of the most sought after actresses, movies that have benefitted from Toyin’s spontaneous and convincing acting include Alakada Reloaded, The Ghost and The Tout, Okafor’s Law and Celebrity Marriage. Toyin played the role of Biodun in this romantic comedy. She also signed the movie as producer

Mercy Johnson Okojie

Mercy Johnson Okojie needs little or no introduction in Nollywood. She is a household name.

Indeed, there is hardly any true follower of core Nollywood movies that would say he or she has not seen Mercy Johnson in action. She is the undisputed darling of the core Nollywood crowd.

Talented and amiable, Mercy’s spontaneity and interpretation of roles is what has given her an edge over some of her contemporaries.

Not only has she warmed her way into the hearts of her viewers and fans, Mercy has, through hard work and dedication, maintained a steady lead on the top rung.

The Kogi born actress but who is now married into the Edo tradition, Mercy plays the role of Bisola Gomez in Seven And A Half Dates.

Previous movies that have had the benefit of her amazing performance include Dumebi the Dirty Girl, 30 days in Atlanta, 10 Days in Sun City and War In The Palace.

Sola Sobowale

Veteran Nollywood actress, Sola Sobowale is Mrs. Gomez in Seven And A Half Dates. Like Mercy Johnson, Sola needs no introduction at all.

She is the queen of the screen acting skies. She is popular and notable on television as she is with Nollywood movies.

Loved by many, respected by all, Sola Sobowale is one actress that most movie producers want to have in their movies.

Not even after stellar performance in the two-part box office hit The Wedding Party.

Reviews on her performance in the movie were positive. A reviewer had remarked that ‘Sola stamped her presence even further in both films (Wedding Party 1 and 2) making everyone know that she is here to stay’.

Sola brings her acting abilities to bear in her interpretation of the role of Mrs. Gomez.

Fathia Williams

Actress, Fathia Williams is not a stranger to the Nigerian screen acting skies. She is notable and she is as relevant in the industry as butter is to bread.

She breathes real life into the character of Mrs. Cole in Seven And A Half Dates that set the pace for the dramatic moment in this movie.

A beloved actress who is an acting auntie to many young actors and actresses, Faithia has starred in and has produced several Nigerian movies over the years.

In 2008, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for the Most Outstanding Indigenous Actress and her movie, Iranse Aje won the best indigenous film of the year.

Fathia Williams also won the Best Indigenous Language: Yoruba award for the work done in the film Iya Alalake at the 2015 Africa-Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards AMVCA.

Bayray McNwinzu

An award winning actress, Bayray came into limelight after winning the third Amstel Malta Box office AMBO) reality show and since then, the actress has not relented in proving that she’s more than just a beautiful face on screen.

An actress of vast credits, Bayray has starred in critically acclaimed movies such as Box Office hit, The Visit, Tiwa’s Baggage, Tales of Eve, Lies Men Tell and My Rich Boyfriend.
