The long-awaited 2017 African Movies Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) held last weekend in Lagos and all the movie stars within and outside Africa made it a night to remember for fans and viewers alike on the red carpet.

From ball gowns, to shimmery gowns to tuxedos and breathtaking accessories, celebrities from the movie, radio, TV and entertainment industries came out to slay for the fifth edition of the yearly prestigious awards.

As usual, many of our stars came to impress while others disappointed yet again. For the ladies, the Cinderella theme was in full effect as a good number of women donned elegant, flowy gowns.

Much as it pains to admit, the men did slightly better this year. More important to note is that this year, a lot of our celebrities wore locally made clothes. This is a wonderful development; one we hope will continue and become permanent, hopefully.

Special recognition has to go to Toni Tones with a purple, hand-made, couture beauty from Yemi Shoyemi. She was one of the best dressed of the night by a mile. Actress Toyin Aimakhu looked regal in a statement piece by Tolu Bally, one of her best looks to date. Ini Dinma Okojie was a sight for sore eyes in Fablane by Derin and we couldn’t get enough of her.

Sadly, some of the favourite and notable red carpet slayers fell flat this year, disappointing us with poor imitations from notable designers, rough outfits or just totally inappropriate outfits or accessories. Some outfits were simply out-of-this-world poor, one had to wonder if they came to the right event. Hope they would do better next year.

Here is a list of our favourite looks and those that didn’t live up to expectation as well.
