If we must get God down to meet our respective needs, we must create an atmosphere conducive for him to inhabit and dwell in.

Modupe Adesina-Oyeneyin

Modupe Adesina-Oyeneyin also known as Dupsy is a Christian, wife, mother, minstrel, recording artiste and seasoned professional with first degree in Microbiology from the University of Lagos and Master’s degree from the University of Liverpool. She is the founder of Foretaste Musical Outreach a music ministry inspired to reach out to widows, orphans and the girl child in the society. A goal getter with passion and dedication; her life desire is to influence and challenge people around her to fulfill their God given destinies. She spoke to DANIEL ANAZIA and bares her mind on her music, outreach and upcoming concert.

How long have you been doing music?
I have been doing music for as long as I can remember, casually singing hymns with my family morning and night as a growing child and then consciously after I gave my life to Christ in 1987. Since my secondary school days in St. Louis Ibadan, to A Levels at Queen’s School Ibadan, an undergraduate in University of Lagos and to date in my local church, Guiding Light Assembly, I have been part of the choir all the way as a Soprano singer.

What genre of music do you do?
I will rather answer the question this way, regardless of the genre of music I sing, my focus is to proclaim the good news that God loves his creation and longs to have a relationship with them through my songs. Like I said earlier, I gave my life to Christ in 1987 and since then I have a divine call to spread the gospel in various forms especially through music.

Tell us about your upcoming musical concert?
The upcoming event is called Foretaste Concert, and as the name implies it is a taste of what every believer in Jesus Christ will experience when we get to heaven. So many hearts have been hurt and no one cares to show love to them. The need to respond to this divine mandate to care for these ones continues to fuel my commitment to the music outreach arm which I christened Foretaste. If we must get God down to meet our respective needs, we must create an atmosphere conducive for him to inhabit and dwell in. People like dancing and singing praises to God, a reason the concert is held in the hall as an avenue to reach out to different people and the nation at large. In the midst of praises, God does wonders and everybody needs God, but creating that environment is where the challenge lies. So, Foretaste Concert is a forum to help people have that kind of atmosphere to encounter God and obtain their miracles.

How long has the concert existed and how many editions so far?
It is annual event and this is the fourth edition. We had the maiden edition in 2014 and the focus since then have remained to have people come together to worship and connect with God. We all know that when that connection happens, there is alignment and when we align with God, destinies are fulfilled and people are able to interpret their divine mandates and assignments. This is important because a lot of people are not sure of who they are or what they are in this world for, hence the unhealthy competition we see playing out in homes and work places. For this and many more reasons, God led me in 2014 to start this meeting, which for now is annual.

What is the theme for this year’s concert and why?
This year’s Foretaste Concert is themed Worship Unleashed. Worship is first a lifestyle and also a time dedicated to honouring God in singing of his glory. When we do this, we usher him into our midst and he comes to glorify himself in our lives. We will be worshipping and honouring God and he will sure come down in his glory and set us all on fire for him. The event would happen on Saturday, November 4, at the Agip Hall, MUSON Centre, Lagos.

Album or albums so far
God has been gracious to us; I have four albums, three already out and doing marvelously well. The first, No More Pain was released in 2006, while the second titled No More Pain Reloaded was released in 2008. The third, The Experience was launched on October 8, during the 2016 annual Foretaste Concert. The fourth titled Worship Unleashed will be launched on November 11 at the Agip Hall, during concert.

Do you think gospel music in Nigeria is doing well?
I believe strongly gospel music is doing very well but we are only just scratching the surface. When gospel artistes recognize the importance of focusing on honouring God in our songs, we will do greater exploits than what we are seeing now. We also need to explore other aspects of the gospel industry value chain. We can’t all be on the stage, some must work in the studio, some at the back stage ensuring all is going well on the stage, some will write the lyrics, others will add the music but in all, the glory of God must be declared and proclaimed.

Which artistes are expected at this year event?
We will be having anointed minstrels like IfeWorships, Asatta All-Well-Brown, Damola Adesina (Praise of Jesus), Victoria Orenze and my humble self sing down the presence and glory of God.

What was your growing up like?
Growing up was fun. I grew up with fantastic siblings and extended family members. We went to church a lot and prayed together as a family morning and night.
