THE death has occurred of   Mazi Edwin Nwangwu. He was born into the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nwangwu of Umuokparaeke Otti in Umuabiama Village of Ajalli in 1938.

The late Nwangwu attended the famous Government School Ajalli, where he passed out in Standard Six. He later enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force in 1960, where he served meritoriously for 35 years.

Sonwim, as Nwangwu was fondly called, participated in peace-keeping operations during his police years, notably the Congo Peace-Keeping Mission in the early 60s.  He was also a footballer in the Police Football Team during his early years in the force. He retired from the Nigeria Police in 1995 after a meritorious service to the country.

Nwangwu also belonged to many social organisations.  He was an active member of Ajalli Welfare Union in different cities he lived. He radiated joy at any social gathering he attended and would be fondly remembered for that.

He was completely gentle and peaceful. Above all, he was a man of the people. Nwangwu was a pensioner until his call to glory on February 15, 2015.

He got married to the late Mrs. Josephine Nwangwu in 1973. The union was blessed with six children — Roseline, Helen, Edwin, Godson, Joy and Edit — who all survived him.
