Towards boosting the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of his State, Ogun State government has disclosed his readiness to rejuvenate tourist sites among other cultural heritage across the state to a world standard.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Basorun Muyiwa Oladipo, revealed this in an interview with journalists at the 3rd Annual Kokumo Oladipo Memorial Foundation (KOMEF) put in place to empower women and school children who are less privileged in the community.

Speaking at the event, which took place at Makun High School, Sagamu, Ogun State, Oladipo said, part of efforts put in place by the present administration was to diversify its economy that was mainly based on petroleum.
He further explained that the state’s rich cultural value and tourism have been discovered to be of great revenue base to boost the state economy if adequately tapped.

Oladipupo pointed out that socio-cultural failure confronting the nation was in total disregard for African cultural values prevalent among the youth due to western influence, saying the present administration would not relent in re-orientating the youths especially in schools.
Highlighting some rich cultural heritage the state is endowed with, the Commissioner argued that Ogun remains the cultural hub of the country in textile and fashion, traditional medicine and health care, music, among other rich historical legacies.
“Ogun state will not only generate revenue through its natural endowments but also educate, impact and re-orientate the youths on importance of African Culture,” he maintained.

Speaking further, Oladipupo urged the people of the state to cooperate with government towards giving the less privileged in the society a new life.

Some of the beneficiaries of the foundation expressed gratitude to the state governments’ kind gesture and that of the organisers, asking that more spirited organisations and God fearing individuals should lend helping hands to the less privileged in the society in order to make the society more safe, peaceful and joyful place for all.

Amosun should boost primary healthcare first. He strikes right thinking Nigerians as a visionless governor in a progressive geo-political zone of Nigeria. Let him fix the Iporo community first with a health centre capable of serving the 20,000 population.
It is a shame that rather than provide basic amenities like pipeborne water and good healthcare, he goes about constructing flyovers at spurious costs which do not touch the lives of the ordinary Ogun state citizens. Leave tourism to private investors to handle. It is commonsensical.
