Soul singer, Lami Phillips has signed up with Harrysong-owned Alterplate Music. The news of the recording deal was made known by the Arabanko singer, Harrysong, who shared a photo on Instagram handle @iamharrysong, showing Lami signing a contract.

“Welcome to the family=Welcome on board Queen @lamiphillipsworld@alterplatemusic to the world,” he wrote:In another post, the Raggae Blues crooner referred to Lami as the ‘first lady of AlterPlate’; “@iamharrysong, I present to you the first lady of alterplate @lamiphillipsworld

With the development, Lami Philips is the first artiste to be signed to Alterplate Music, a record company Harrysong set up in 2016, after his exit from Five Star Records.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, the Neo-Soul/Afro-pop singer and songwriter released her debut album, Intuition in 2009, which housed the popular single, Know, featuring M.I Abaga. She followed up with an Extended Play (EP) titled Love, which was released in 2013.

Growing up, Lami was always surrounded by all genres of music, as her parents and siblings were all music enthusiasts. She found that she was naturally inclined to RnB, Soul and Jazz, from an early age, and would write songs and make herself mixtapes to listen to, of all her favorite artists.

Following her family’s relocation to Nigeria, Lami while at Corona School, Victoria Island, where she had her elementary school won a talent competition that helped her realize her love for singing and entertaining. She moved to England in her teenage years and lived there for about 11 years, and later return to the United States.

Her music interests ranged from the likes of Tupac Shakur, to Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Lauryn Hill, Kim Burell, Jill Scott, Sade, Otis Redding and many more. Over time, Lami have diversified her skills, extending her talents to theatre and screen acting.

According to Lami, the musical journey was taking forever because she kept seeking the perfect team, perfect moment, perfect opportunity, and the perfect songs until it occurred to her that sometimes ‘perfect’ is overrated.

“I wrote my first song when I was eight years old. I really thought I could mail it to Walt Disney and get it on their next project. All my siblings still remember the song though, so it means it’s still a hit!” she said.
