The weeklong anniversary celebration of Ikoyi Club 1938 will climax tomorrow with the grand finale, which holds at the club’s Table Tennis hall, starting from 30pm. Tagged Chairman’s Week, the celebration, which commenced on Tuesday with a lecture delivered by Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, was put together to mark the club’s 76th anniversary.

Today, the celebration continues at the club’s lawn with Children’s Film Show, which starts at 2pm. the programme is designed to create avenue for children of members to have fun and be part of the big celebration.

Meanwhile, the Main Bar of the club was agog yesterday, as members and guests had fun during the Boogie Night, one of the programmes for this year’s celebration. The evening was an opportunity for members to unwind, while swinging to the sound of music. It would be recalled that a novelty match was played on Thursday at the club’s lawn as part of the celebration.

Speaking on the anniversary, the Chairman of the club Adewale Doherty noted that, apart from it entertainment value, the celebration is an opportunity to assess the efforts of his administration in developing the club.

“This administration will go down the history as the one that executed one of the biggest projects in this club. As at the time this club was formed, we didn’t have the number of members we have today. So, the expansion means that we now have limited parking space for members and guests. That was why we embarked on this car park project, which will benefit all members,” he said.

The chairman added that, “since we came onboard, the quality of food and services here have greatly improved; we will leave the club better than we met it,” he said.
