Nigerian Idol V: Battle Gets Fiercer As Top 6 Emerge

THE fifth season of the Etisalat sponsored Nigerian Idol has proven itself as a season of surprises with shocking results from the last four eviction shows.

Nigeria Idol 1THE fifth season of the Etisalat sponsored Nigerian Idol has proven itself as a season of surprises with shocking results from the last four eviction shows.

Last week’s eviction was no different, as it witnessed Sther, Uloma and P.Scholes bow out of the competition, after earning the lowest votes for the week. With the atmosphere filled with tension, the Top 9 were made to undergo nail biting announcement rounds by Illrymz, the host of the show, for their names to be called as saved contestants.

At the end of the show, a sad Sther expressed her disappointment to be evicted from the competition so early, but she assured Nigerians that she will use all she learnt in the competition to build a successful music career.

“I am grateful to Nigerian Idol and the judges for this opportunity,” added P.Scholes. This leaves Brenda, Dolu, Classic Tunes, Nex2, K-Peace and Preye, as the Top 6 contestants who will be battling it out this Sunday with performances of popular broad way songs for a spot in the hearts of the judges and viewers.

Speaking after the show, Manager, Sponsorships, Etisalat Nigeria, Orah Egwu said she was amazed at the improved performances of the contestants. Egwu said, “I was thrilled at the performances of the contestants and I urge the evicted ones to hold on passionately to their dream.

However, I advise the remaining Top 6 contestants to focus on the big prize.” Speaking about the performances of some of the contestants, Dede Mabiaku said, “We were not harsh on Uloma but truth is, she has failed to improve.

Brenda needs to show more skill, Dolu should let go of the nerves and Nex2 needs to get into his act and stop thinking that everything is all about votes.”

The show was wrapped up by an exhilarating performance from the first runner up of the Nigerian Idol Season 1, Naomi. The winner of competition will go home with the grand prize of N7.5 million, a brand new car and a recording deal with Universal Music Company worth N7.5 million.
