JRB is an upcoming music group, made up of 28 years old, Oluwaseyi Allen aka Benj, 25 year old, Agbe Adeyemi aka Reckon and also 28 years old, James Osakwe aka Jcruiz. Three friends who formed a group after trying out solo careers. The Lead city graduates, whose latest single Jaiye is enjoying airplay on radio stations, while being represented by Jcruiz, spoke on their journey into music, challenges in the industry and passion for music.

What was growing up like?
Our parents contributed greatly to our growing up. I grew up with my mum, who taught me morals as my dad passed when I was a year old. Although strict but they inculcated great human values in our lives which is evident in our life styles now.

Why music and when did you discover your musical talent?
We actually discovered our love for music at very young age, mine at the age of thirteen. Benj started writing songs at an early age also while Reckon fell in love with music while tagging along his secondary school friends to the studio.

How did your parents feel about doing music?
My family understands my decisions are well calculated; as such they don’t have issues with my new found career. Although they never supported us fully until after graduation but they did not stop us.

When did you decide to form a group?
We have been friends in university with solo careers, before coming together as a group. After working for different corporate organizations we decided to hit the studio .We came up with “Jaiye” as our first single and formed the group J.R.B which was coined from our initials (Jcruiz, Reckon and Benj)

How would you describe your kind of music?
Our style of music is Afro fusion; a bit of Afro, hip pop and juju.

With the rate of group breakups in Nigeria, why form a group?
We have all been friends before music and worked on different projects together and have never had any cause to stop being friends. Our strength is in our unity. We are confident that if we could make it as friends, we can as well make it as a group

What challenges do you face in the music industry?
When you have to pay to push your songs across to gain airplay.

Which musician inspires you?
2baba, Wizkid, Tekno, Jay Z,

What inspired your latest single Jaiye?
Jaiye was inspired by the struggle we all went through before we aligned with our love for music. A song about happiness and enjoyment after the hard work to achieve Success.
