Who wins at the Headies?

It will be battle royale this evening, as The Headies, one of Nigeria’s biggest music award established to recognise outstanding achievement in the Nigerian music industry holds at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Davido, Wizkid, Simi, Tiwa, Olamide, All Eyes ‘Artiste Of The Year’

It will be battle royale this evening, as The Headies, one of Nigeria’s biggest music award established to recognise outstanding achievement in the Nigerian music industry holds at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

With over 25 categories and 77 nominees, this edition of the award have pop star David Adeleke popularly known as Omo Baba Olowo leading the nominees list with six nominations. Simi, Wizkid and rapper Olamide are following with five nominations respectively.

Established in 2006, by Hip Hop World Magazine, and formerly known as the Hip Hop World Awards, this year’s ceremony has new categories introduced into event. This include: Viewer’s Choice Award, Best Performer and a special category to recognise the efforts of brands that have supported the entertainment industry for the past three years.

According to a statement released by Smooth Promotions, organisers of the award, the awards academy, this edition of the award, 12th in the series will be rewarding artistes and producers for their painstaking in the year under review (from July 2016 – December 2017).

As Davido, Wizkid, Olamide, Simi, Tiwa Savage battle for the Artiste of the Year category, Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Runtown, Kiss Daniel and Tekno are head-to-head for the Headies’ Viewers Choice.

For Song of the Year, Small Doctor aims to walk home with award with his Penalty hit, as Kiss Daniel threatens the chance with Yeba, even as Olamide seeks to woo the Academy with Wo. Runtown is itching to upturn the table with his Mad Over You. That is if Omo Baba Olowo (Davido) did not walk away with The Headie for the category with his If.

It will be tough fight between Flavour, Falz, M.I., 2baba, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage in the Best Performer category, while MTN, Pepsi, Glo, Hennessy, FIRS, Nigeria Breweries and Lagos State in the Industry Brand Supporter award.Fans will today also known which artiste is the Best Street-Hop Artiste between Small Doctor (Penalty), Olamide (Wo), CDQ (Sai Baba), Idowest Ft. Dammy Krane, Slim Case  (Shepeteri), Skuki (Pass The Agbara), Mr Real Ft. Idowest, Kelvin Chuks, Obadice (Legbegbe).

Niniola, Adekunle Gold, Mr. Eazi, and Reekado Banks are eyeing one another for the Hip Hop World Revelation, just as one of this artiste, Maleek Berry, Mayorkun, Dice Ailes, Johnny Drille, and Zoro will be pronounced the Next Rated, which is arguably the biggest of the awards, as it comes with lots of recognition and the bonus of a brand new car.

For the Producer of the Year, Kidominant (Fall, Mama), Spellz (Iskaba, Malo), Tekno (If, Rara), Sarz (Maradona, Come Closer), and Master Kraft (Yawa, Virtuous Woman) are locking horns for the prize.

The Jackal and the Hyena may of the same family, but there is no doubt to the fact that the Jackal is stronger. This is the situation in the Best Reggae/Dancehall category, as Patoranking Ft. Diamond Platnumz (Love You Die), Timaya Ft. Rudeboy (Dance), 2baba (Holy Holy), Burna Boy (Rock Your Body) Wizkid (Come Closer) Kiss Daniel (Sofa) are all in contention for the Headie in this category.

Simi hopes to walk home with the Album of the Year award with her Simisola album. It will be a tough call for her as she has other heavyweights in the category, including Wizkid (Sounds From The Other Side), Adekunle Gold (Gold), Brymo (Klitoris), Flavour (Ijele The Traveler) and Phyno (The Playmaker).
