AS movie stars, celebrities and motion picture practitioners from different parts of the continent get set to hit Nigeria for this year’s prestigious Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs), billed for March 7, at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, AfricaMagic, the continent’s leading provider of world class entertainment, treated nominees for the 2015 edition to a celebratory brunch.

Held at the Ball Room of the Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos, the event, which was staged in association with MultiChoice and lead sponsors Amstel Malta, saw the unveiling of a special AMVCA edition of Nigeria’s leading fashion and style magazine, Mania.

It was an afternoon of celebration, glitz and glamour as the brunch, which was hosted by popular on air personality and presenter of 53 Extra, Ozzy Agu, set the tone for the day with a red carpet event and had in attendance a number of popular Nollywood talents nominated in several categories at this year’s AMVCAs. Guests at the event included several A-List stars like OC Ukeje, Iretiola Doyle, Segun Arinze, Joke Silva, Linda Ejiofor and many others.

In his opening remarks, the Managing Director, Multichoice Nigeria, Mr. John Ugbe, said, “the third edition of the AMVCAs is just around the corner. As we celebrate the nominees today, we also acknowledge the impact that the awards have had on African film and television production. MultiChoice continues to celebrate African talent, and the continued success of the AMVCAs further showcases our commitment to recognising the amazing skills that exist in the ever-growing African entertainment industry.”

Also expressing his excitement for being part of the AMVCAs, the Corporate Media and Brand PR Manager, Nigerian Breweries, Mr. Edem Vindah noted that, “Nigerian Breweries is excited to once again partner with Africa Magic in celebrating the best of African entertainment content. Amstel Malta, the number one premium low sugar Malt brand in Nigeria, has supported the AMVCAs since the first edition in 2013 and we recognise the awards as a truly unique platform which aligns perfectly with the brand’s essence, encouraging and also rewarding ambitious and talented Africans.”

Wishing nominees the best of luck at the awards, the Regional Director, M-Net (West) Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu observed that, “in just a short time, the AMVCAs have become the continental celebration of film and TV talent across the continent and the acceptance and appreciation of the awards show the amazing transformations taking place in the African film and TV industry. As we approach the third edition of the awards, we celebrate the talents that have driven the growth of the African film and TV industry to what it is today. Africa Magic celebrates these talents not just today, or at the awards but always.”

On his part, celebrity photographer and publisher of Mania Magazine, Mr. Kelechi Amadi-Obi, commended the perseverance and tenacity of the African creative industry. Describing the magazine as the result of these factors, Amadi-Obi urged the nominees present to never relent in pursuing their passion.

Meanwhile, public voting for the award closes at midnight on February 28 and the awards will air live on all Africa Magic channels at 5.00pm Nigerian time.

“This year’s edition of the AMVCAs promises to be bigger than the previous editions and we thank our lead sponsors Amstel Malta, our associate sponsor MTN and other sponsors Verve, Payporte and Unilever for supporting us as we celebrate African entertainment talent. This year, we have seen a phenomenal improvement not just in the number of entries for the awards but also in the quality of entries. We are indeed excited and can hardly wait for the 7th of March when all of Africa and indeed the rest of the world will find out who the winners are,” Mba-Uzoukwu said.
