Excitement, As Glo Laffta Fest Rocks Ikorodu

Having rocked the ancient city of Ibadan, it was the turn of Ikorodu last Sunday, as the excitement continued for Globacom subscribers, who are being treated to the best of music and comedy in a show tagged Glo Laffta Fest.

Staged at the popular The Musical Village, the venue was jam-packed with guests, who came to watch their favorite comedians and artistes perform live on stage. One by one, group-by-group, fun lovers started trooping into the venue as early as 2pm. Before long, 3,000-capacity auditorium was filled to the brim. You need to see guests struggle for vantage positions, as action commenced on stage.

In line with the tradition of giving fresh talents opportunity to test their works on a big stage, young, up and coming got slots to entertain the audience, thereby setting the ball rolling for the evening.

John D Nice, Tupengo, Joe Ornomo, K-Swag, Bliss, Solid Jay and Seriki were the aspiring artistes who performed, while D-One and Bengy D. Joke cracked-up the audience with hilarious jokes.

Bovi’s emergence on stage elicited a deafening cheer and standing ovation from the audience who could not recognise him initially, until he pulled the hood from his head. He anchored the show in an interactive manner while reeling out jokes.

Glo ambassador, Helen Paul evoked nostalgic memories about her formative years in Ikorodu, as she weaved jaw-breaking jokes around the period. Senator’s performance was sensational; his style of telling jokes was akin to the American stand-up comedian, Chris Tucker.

Then came Okey Bakassi, a dynamic comedian who keeps reinventing himself. He sent the audience roaring with laughter, jolting them from their seats as he reeled out numerous exciting jokes. When it comes to spontaneity, Okey Bakassi is one comedian you can bank on any time. Gandoki, Still Ringing and Acapella also performed creditably.

Mavin Records protégé, Reekado Banks took the show to the next level, as he rocked the show with a scintillating performance in a musical interlude as he mingled with the audience. Omawunmi, the sonorous singer, closed the night with her live performance that got the crowd ecstatically dancing to her songs.

Activities introduced to spice up the show by the anchor, Bovi, included a hilarious political debate by five male and female members of the audience. Away from politics, he took some young members of the audience to test to know how deep they understand the National Anthem; the test confirmed the fact that not many Nigerians completely understand the lines. At the end, Bovi corrected all and gave out Glo branded gifts. 

In his welcome address, Globacom’s Business Director, Dare Oyewole explained that the Glo Laffta Fest comedy show initiative was developed by the company to give back to its teeming subscribers.
