Govt Plans Fresh Minimum Qualification For Teachers
Federal Government has set in motion fresh apparatus to put in place enabling law specifying the minimum qualification for anyone going into the teaching profession at all levels of education.
The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah disclosed this while on official visit to the Federal Government Girls College, (FGGC), Owerri and the Federal Government College (FGC), Okigwe recently.
Anwukah said he has on behalf of the Federal Government started discussions with the National Assembly members and relevant stakeholders on the required standard for anyone to venture into the profession, adding that before long, it would no longer be business as usual.
The minister noted that government is committed to ensuring quality education at all levels in the country, assuring that the dilapidated infrastructure in FGGC and that of Okigwe would be fixed to standard to ensure a healthy teaching/learning environment.
The Principal of the FGGC, Mrs. Nnennaya Ejiaku, represented by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Augustine Guzugbe decried the state of infrastructure in the institution, urging that the E-library equipment for networking be completed.
Her counterpart in Okigwe, Juliana Ezemoka, appealed for the school’s bore hole facilities to be restored to enable students have clean and drinkable water in the hostel.
Chairmen of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of both schools, Clifford Nwaogu and Moses Ajoku appealed called on government to make life easy for the students numbering over 2,000 by providing mobility to purchase food items among others.
