SPAR takes community development campaign to Ilupeju Grammar School

In line with its resolve to promote community development in their host community, SPAR Nigeria has partnered with Ilupeju Junior Grammar School to organise its yearly inter-school competition.

In line with its resolve to promote community development in their host community, SPAR Nigeria has partnered with Ilupeju Junior Grammar School to organise its yearly inter-school competition.

Held at the school premises in Ilupeju, the event, which doubled as a French Speaking Day, featured French language competitions amongst the various classes in the junior and senior secondary school divisions, who were invited to participate in the competition. The school also engaged in French themed activities such as drama presentations, poetry and dance all done in French Language.

The winning students were presented with SPAR gift cards, while the winning schools received printers for their respective schools in the 1st 2nd and 3rd positions. The organization also made the day memorable for the children as refreshments was provided and participants went home with consolation prices.

According to Uche Edokobi, Head of Department Languages, Ilupeju Junior Grammar School, the day was conceived as a platform to encourage multi-linguicism amongst children. She noted that Nigeria, a member of ECOWAS, is surrounded by French speaking neighboring countries, adding that children should be encouraged to learn and speak French in other to compete favourably in today’s global community.

SPAR’s Marketing Manager Emmanuel Isangediok expressed deep appreciation to the school authorities especially the teachers for their positive efforts in impacting knowledge to the children. According to him, language proficiency and mental assertiveness affords learners more opportunities in the future.

“At SPAR, adding value to the community in which we operate is key”, He said. The company, which recently opened its 11th store in Nigeria, has reiterated its position in improving lives and developing host communities across the country.

Asides offering the best consumer and household items at the most competitive prices, reaching out to children and enhancing employment opportunities are amongst its primary societal goals for the year. Isangediok also informed that the organisation is ready to support similar events in the communities where they operate.
