The Mandators Plans Big For Reggae Music

Nigerian reggae musician, Victor Essiet popularly called The Mandators has unveiled plans and preparations to refresh reggae music and make it reclaim its rightful position in the mind of the people.

He made this disclosure in a recent press briefing on the forthcoming second annual Africa Meets Reggae and world Music International Festival  which  will hold in Nigeria on 27th and 28th of November, 2015 in Lagos.

The event which used to be hosted by Echodelic Music and Dub club in Los Angeles for the past years, will be hosted in Nigeria by Mystic Records USA and Victor Essiet, in conjuction with Tom Chasteen and Russell Gerlach Foundation Artistes from the USA.

Victor Essiet  also stated that this year festival lineups will start with a symposium on 19th November, 2015, with the theme: “The role of music in modern contemporary Nigeria”, and the main show is tagged, “The executive show”, which will also take place at Ember Creek, 32, Awolowo road Ikoyi, Lagos.

Other events slated for the program are the “People’s show” and it will take place at the Hockey Pitch, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos and the lunch of the first quarterly music academy in August.

On the essence of the Academy, Essiet stated that, it is aimed at nurturing young and raw talents, helping groups/bands and upcoming artistes, prepare them, develop and enhance their musical knowledge/performance skills and general music business.

The musical festival which has always had in attendance world renowned reggae artistes will be anchored by  The Mandators, which had brought the maiden edition to Nigeria in 2014.

The theme for this year is “Voice of the Voiceless”, and it will feature world and internationally recognized and local artistes with two-part concert with audience segregation in other to satisfy and cater for all lovers of reggae and world music in Nigeria and neighboring West African States.

The outdoor will be without restriction to attendance while all minors must be accompanied by adult. African Meets Reggae has been an annual event in Los Angeles, USA, under Echodelic Music and Dub Club Production.

According to Essiet, reggae music is a powerful instrument of change and since he had left the country for America over the decade, the message and music has greatly faded. His mission therefore, is to re-establish reggae music and its message be brought to prominence in Nigeria and the whole of Africa. The festival will also give reggae music new exposure and awareness to music fans worldwide.
