UNIBEN To Host Medical Students Games, Conference

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof Faraday Orumwense, has thrown his weight behind the upcoming biennial Medical Students Games to be hosted by the University of Benin Medical Students Association (UBEMSA) in March this year.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof Faraday Orumwense, has thrown his weight behind the upcoming biennial Medical Students Games to be hosted by the University of Benin Medical Students Association (UBEMSA) in March this year.

He made his position known while inaugurating the staff committee of the games at the Conference room of the College of Medical Sciences, University of Benin.

Prof. Orumwense, who was represented by his deputy on Administration, Prof Lawrence Ezemwonye, said he is delighted that the event, which was last hosted by UNIBEN in 2003 would be held during his tenure.

Congratulating the school for winning the bid to host the games, Orumwense stated that management would do all within its powers to ensure hitch free activities.

“UNIBEN is known for its hospitality and we pride ourselves as UNIBEST. This is the time to prove it to the world. With facilities at the Sports complex, Ultra Modern NDDC hostel for camping the participants as well as interesting site of historical visit in Benin, I believe the games will be a success,” he said.

Dean of Medicine, Prof. Moses Mommoh, disclosed that UNIBEN’s students have been doing well at the NiMSA National level. According to him the office of the Standing Committee on NiMSA Games (SCONGA) is held by a UNIBEN student, Joel Akujieze. He also informed that the immediate past National Vice President, Louis Aikorogie, was from the school, adding that in the last NiMSA games in Imo State, the school’s team won gold medal in football category amid many others.

In a related development, the Christian Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria Students (CMDAS), UNIBEN Chapter has also won the right to host the next national conference of the association in November 2016. This was made known to the students, while inaugurating the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the event by the immediate past president of the association, Rex Uwaifo.
