Ambode approves hosting of schools competitions In Lagos

The Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor on Sports, Mr. Deji Tinubu, yesterday revealed the approval of five schools competitions by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

The Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor on Sports, Mr. Deji Tinubu, yesterday revealed the approval of five schools competitions by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

The championships will hold between this month and December.

Tinubu said the governor, who is an ardent supporter of grassroots sports, wants to afford the young athletes the opportunity to showcase their talents.

According to him, organising championships among the students in schools became necessary in order to intensify sporting activities in the state, adding that that is a rare chance for them to unearth their talents and be groomed to become famous in their chosen field in the nearest future.

“His Excellency has been magnanimous to approve the staging of five school sports championships that will hold in the next two weeks. This is the first in the series of other events that are in the offing, that I can tell you,” he said.

Speaking further on other activities line up in the state, Tinubu said: “We will be having other championships like the swimming, table tennis, cricket, scrabble and a gymnastics initiative programmes to open up our sporting facilities to the public.

“We want to bring sports development to the schools, it is within this school environment that genuine and proper grassroots sports development can take its roots,” Tinubu stated.
