Bank donates Table Tennis equipment to CRS Sports Council
In preparation for the Calabar Primary/ Secondary Schools Table Tennis Championship slated to hold this month, First Royal Microfinance Bank and Royal International Farms Ltd have donated a complete set of Joola 5000 table tennis board, eight packs of Das table tennis balls, and two pairs table tennis rubber to the Cross River State Sports Commission.
While handing over the items to the chairman of the commission, the general manger of Royal International Farms and Estate Limited, Usen Umoh said the championship which was to kick start on the 8th to 10th of February this month was aimed at promoting sport activities most especially Table tennis in Primary and Secondary schools levels.
He said the success of the championship would produce champions of tomorrow in the likes of Aruna Quadri and the rest. Umor said, “as a way to give back to society through supporting sustainable sports development in the state,the company believe that the first Calabar primary/ Secondary schools Table Tennis championship will go a long way. In discovering future table tennis stars that will succeed the likes of Aruna Quadri,Offiong Edem, Cecila Akpan and Funke Oshnike.
“As you are aware, sports and physical education are collectively considered integral part of quality education. Both constitute the basic foundation for building physical and mental well-being.
They encourage respect for rules, rejection of cheating, respect for the winners by the losers, and the later`s acceptance that the former was at that moment the best”.
Speaking earlier while receiving the set of sport items Chairman Cross River State sports Commission, Orok Duke said the coming of Royal Farms Ltd and its Affiliate was in responds to appeals made by the Commission to sponsor 2 out of the 42 sports they are running.
The Chairman also disclosed that Cross River remain a leading state in table tennis as 3 out of the national players came from the state.He appealed for more sponsorship by individuals and organisations for other sports activities lined up for the season.
