Benin, Ghana, others set for International Shotokan Karate Championship

Benin Republic, Ghana, Togo and Ivory Coast have confirmed their arrival date for the third Nigeria Association of Shotokan Karate (NASK) Championship slated to hold from August 29 to September 1 in Lagos, the organisers disclosed yesterday.

The Shotokan Karate Association said the tournament, tagged, ‘Training with the Champions International Karate Course,’ would feature world class karate training for all participants, adding that all logistics for a successful championship, has been taken care of.

NASK said the two previous editions in 2005 and 2010 paved the way for the world’s two finest and the most experienced non-Japanese karate instructors, Sensei Andy Sherry (9th Dan) and Sensei Frank Brennan (8th Dan) to be part of the epoch event.

The association added many athletes from the 36 states of the federation have indicated interest to be in Lagos for the tourney.

Apart from exposing participants to the latest techniques in the formats of Kata (forms) and Kumite (point fighting), the event is auspicious as it coincides with the recent adoption of karate as an Olympic sport, NASK said.
