Clubs suspend activities, as golfers mourn Animashaun, LGAN president

The Nigerian golfing community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden demise of the president of the Lady Golfers Association of Nigeria, Mrs. Tima Animashaun.

Mrs. Animashaun, who became LGAN president in November last year, was the Lady Captain of the Ikoyi Club’s Golf Section in 2010, 2011.

According to officials of the LGAN, the late Animashaun died on active service while attending the Lamingo Ladies Open in Jos on Sunday.

She reportedly died in her room at the Plateau Government Guest House, Jos, just hours before she was supposed to preside over the opening ceremony of the tournament.

The LGAN told The Guardian yesterday that Mrs. Animashaun’s body arrived in Lagos yesterday evening and was deposited at the General Hospital.

“All clubs in Nigeria have opened a condolence register in her honour, while the Ikoyi Ladies have declared the week a golf-free week in her honour.

“The LGAN executive will declare a mourning period, but Wednesday, March 30 has been chosen tentatively as the day for Service of Songs. Wake keep will hold on Thursday, March 31, while she will be buried on April 1. “This will be confirmed by family, while Venue/time will be communicated later by the NGF executive,” the LGAN said.

The burial arrangements, according to the LGAN, will be coordinated with the family on behalf of LGAN by the Zonal Vice-President West, Mrs. Zulu Omo- Ikerodah; Zonal Vice-President North, Mrs. Ekanem Ekwueme and Past President, Mrs. Joko Olunloyo.

The LGAN described its late president “as a very Kind, soft spoken, respectful, amiable, humane and advocate of peace, which she preached to all the ladies till she took her last breath. “

According to a former LGAN president, who is a member of the NGF, Emy Ekong, Animashaun was a hard working lady, who had good plans for the association.

“I was informed she attended the Ladies Golf Union AGM at Leeds in February with her first Vice President, Zonal North, Mrs. Ekanem Ekwueme, where she was confirmed the Overseas Vice President.
“It is a very sad loss, but we thank God for her Life. She will be greatly missed by all of us.”
