Former Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh, has said that the Super Eagles need a creative attacker to surmount a tactically disciplined Iceland in their next game at the ongoing 2018 World Cup holding in Russia.

Obuh, who expressed dismay over the Nigeria’s loss to Croatia in the opener, stated that Coach Gernot Rohr needs to inject into the squad players that would battle Iceland in the second group game, a tactically experience players who can keep opponent defenders on their toes and also create space for other players to score. The former U-17 coach noted that the Eagles’ ability to fly over Iceland, who he said are organised in the defence, can only be achieved when the Eagles play like a team.

Obuh also pleaded with football loving Nigerians not to write off the team yet, saying that loss to Croatia would spur Eagles to fight like wounded lions in their remaining games.

“Eagles loss in their first game does not mean the team’s quest to excel in Russia is over. Rohr should inject a creative striker to work with Odion Ighalo, who I think can not only take up the striking role alone in this World Cup.

“You can see that the level of competition among the participating teams at the World Cup is high, the Eagles have to be more business like in their game against Iceland to earn the vital three points to still keep them in contention for the second round of the world cup. With the right selection and formation, the Super Eagles can deliver in Russia,”he said.

Meanwhile former Super Eagles coach, Adegboye Onigbinde, has charged Eagles to raise the standard of their game and put the defeat from Croatia behind in a bid to secure victory in the remaining group games against Iceland and Argentina. He added that the Super Eagles have the task to put Africa on a good light in Africa football.
