Enyimba down Rivers United as Plateau United overtake MFM
Former champions, Enyimba of Aba yesterday in Calabar defeated Rivers United with Skipper Mfon Udoh the hero, as the Peoples Elephant continued the surge up the table.
Udoh’s winner for Enyimba came from the penalty spot on a day Plateau United regained the top spot from MFM, who lost their tie with Gombe United at the Pantani Stadium with Sadiq Shuaibu scoring for the home side in the 54th minute.
MFM led the log for just one week following their victory over Rivers United last week, but Plateau United came back strongly yesterday with a 4-1 defeat of ABS at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos.
Reuben Bala scored a hat trick with Joshua Obaje adding a goal for Plateau United, whose coach, Kennedy Boboye watched the game from the stands, as he is still under suspension.
Obaje set the ball rolling in the 20th minute, but an own goal by Hamisu Saleh leveled scores before Bala took over the show. Bala gave Plateau United the lead in the 42nd minute from the penalty spot and added two more in the 70th and 92nd minute off another penalty kick..
Enugu Rangers’ poor run this season continued as they lost 1-0 to Katsina United through Timothy Danladi’s spot kick. Kadiri Ikhana’s Kano Pillars were bashed 3-0 Abia Warriors in Umuahia with Sherif Bashir and Sunday Adetunji sealing the win after Joel Djondang’s first half own goal had given the Ochendo Boys the lead.
Shooting Stars of Ibadan’s poor away run continued in Lafia, where they lost 0-1 to Nasarawa United with Thomas Zenke scoring the only goal in the 84th minute. Elsewhere, Remo Stars beat Wikki Tourist 2-1; El Kanemi defeated Lobi Stars 1-0, just as Niger Tornadoes beat Sunshine Stars 2-1.
