Enyimba 367Former African champions, Enyimba of Aba, continued their surge to the summit of the 2014/2015 Glo Nigeria Premier League table yesterday in Ilorin, where they beat home team, Kwara United 3-2. But the biggest beneficiaries in the Week 15 round of games were Sunshine Stars, who capitalized on Wikki Tourists’ draw at home to climb to the top of the table.

That was made possible by their 3-1 defeat of Akwa United at the Akure Stadium. Visiting Giwa United held Wikki to a 1-1 draw. Sunshine, who lost 0-1 to Enugu Rangers at the weekend, now have 29 points from 15 matches, same as Enyimba, but the Akure boys top the table die to their superior goals difference.

Ifeanyi George put Enyimba ahead in the 26th minute, while Christian Obiozor made it two for ‘Peoples Elephant’ in the 37th minute. Olufemi Oladapo reduced the tally shortly after Obiozor’s goal to give Kwara United supporters hope of a good ending to the game.

However, Enyimba took the game beyond the Afonja Warriors in the 77th minute off a penalty converted by Markson Ojobo following Victor Dennis’ handling of the ball inside his own goal area. In Enugu, Rangers extended their fine run in the league under new coach Imama Amakapabo when they fought back from a goal down to beat Kano Pillars 2-1. Aniefiok Godspower scored his second goal in as many matches as Pillars stunned Rangers.

However, Rangers fought back to win 2-1 with goals from Godwin Aguda and Bobby Clement. Heartland piped FC IfeanyiUbah 1-0; Abia Warriors turned back Bayelsa 3-1, just as Nasarawa defeated FC Taraba 2-0. Shooting Stars were 1-0 better than Sharks in Ibadan, Warri Wolves beat Lobi Stars 1-0, while El Kanemi piped Dolphins 1-0.
