24 schools confirm for league stage

THE organisers have confirmed that 24 schools across Lagos State would feature in the league stage of the annual Lagos Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) Principals' Cup, 12 teams each for boys and girls events. The teams, which emerged finalists from the six districts across the state, will participate in the next stage of the championship, which will commence next year. Aside the teams that made it to the knockout stage, new district champions also emerged from the zones.

From District One, Ikotun Senior High School from Alimosho and Girls Senior High School from Agege will represent the zone in the girls’ event, while the boys division will have Keke High School from Ifako-Ijaiye and Dairy Farm Senior High School from Agege. Alimosho and Ifako-Ijaiye teams are district champions.

In District Two, Gbagada Senior Grammar School and Ikorodu High School will take part in the girls’ event, while boys’ teams from Gbagada Senior Grammar School and Oriwu Senior Model College will hoist the zone’s flag. Female teams from Epetedo High School and Akande Dahunsi Memorial School will represent District Three while Epe Grammar School and Ilasan Community Grammar School are the boys’ teams from the zone.

Aguda Grammar School won the District Four final and Coker Secondary School will join it in the girls’ event while Mainland High School outclassed Jubilee Model Grammar School for the male of same district and both teams will represent the zone in the league stage.

District Five champion, Gaskiya Senior College, defeated Agboju Senior Secondary School 2-0 to emerge champion in the boys’ event while the girl’s teams from Alakoto Senior High School will fly the District Five flag alongside Kuje Senior Secondary School, with Alakoto being the district champion.

Finals of districts four and five were played at Albati Barracks and Army Cantonment Boys Secondary School, Ojo, respectively. From District Six, Ajumoni Senior Grammar School, Okota, emerged winner in the girls’ event after thrashing Ilupeju Grammar School 3-1 in the final. Both teams will represent the zone.

In the boys’ event, the conqueror of Eko Boys High School, Army Cantonment Senior Secondary School, Ikeja, met its waterloo in the final of the boys’ event of District Six when it conceded two goals against Ikeja Senior Grammar School to become runner-up from the district. However, the two Ikeja teams will represent the zone.

Over 313 schools from across the state featured in the qualifiers, with the champion pocketing N100,000, first runner-up N75,000, while third and fourth-placed winners got N50,000 and N25,000 respectively. The finals will be staged at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
