TWELVE goals were scored on the opening day of the 2015 13th Bankole Olumide Aluko tournament, also known as Lawyers League, which kicked off at the weekend at the Astroturf 2000 pitch, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Kicking off the goals rain was the firm of Aluko & Oyebode, who defeated Pinheiro & Co, 2-0, with two strikes from the boots of Uhunmwangho in the 4th and 9th minute. Babalakin & Co.’s Ashamu was also on target as his team defeated Tayo Oyetibo/Bayo Osepitan by a lone goal.

The highest number of goals on the opening day was witnessed in the game involving the firm of Tokunbo Orimobi and Advocaat, with the former winning by 3-1. OKEDINACHI and ORIMOBI scored the goals for Tokunbo Orimobi in the third and 12th minute respectively, while Aforgbu got a 15th minute consolation goal for Advocaat.

Probitas/B. Ayorinde defeated Olajide Oyewole 2-0 with Sanyaolu (sixth) and Chikezie (12th) getting the goals, but the shock of the day happened in the game between Lagos State Ministry of Justice and Banwo & Ighodalo, with the former beaten the defending champions by 2-1. The only scoreless match on the opening day was the game between UUBO and Aelex.

Lagos State Ministry of Justice won the competition last year with ease, but their performance in the opening game indicates that defending the title would be a tough task for them.

The Bankole Olumide Aluko Football Tournament (BOA) or Lawyers’ League is held in memory of the Late lawyer, Bankole Olumide Aluko, a founding partner in the Law firm of Aluko & Oyebode, who passed on 13 years ago.
