Acknowledging the importance of sports in the physical and psychological development of the children, the School Director, Mrs. Ndulue Uchenna noted that the sports festival was an extra-curricular activity targeted at helping the pupils and students of the school recreate and rediscover their talents.

“The sports competition was mainly to provide recreation for the pupils and also to enable them showcase their talents for further nurturing when they advance to higher schools.

“We know we owe it to the pupils to give them some kind of recreation and at the same time provide a platform for talent discovery which could be improved upon when they get to higher schools,” she said.

She noted that the school, as an academic institution, has as one of its responsibilities to give young people the foundation to build a full and active life.

“Young people spend a significant amount of time at school, therefore, the school environment needs to be supportive of students being active. Physical Health Education and school sports competitions like this are important parts of comprehensive approach to providing this support,” she said.

The Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Nwabunike Francis stated that the competition was interesting noting that the school is well organized with high standards urging the public to enroll their children and wards in the school for them to enjoy quality education that the school offers.

Mr. Francis further appealed to the government, private organizations and other stakeholders in the education sector to invest more in physical education to facilitate not just a healthy society, but also a health-conscious society.
