Organisers of GOtv Boxing Night, Flykite Promotions, have promised adequate security in and around the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos, venue of eight edition of the championship, which holds on Saturday.

Speaking in Lagos yesterday, CEO of Flykite Promotions, Jenkins Alumona, assured fans coming for the event that they have nothing to fear, as adequate security arrangements have been made.

“We have never had any incident since we started in 2014 and we will not have any this time. One of our partners is the leading security company in the country. They are the ones providing security for the event,” Alumona said.

He added that this edition, being held in the memory of legendary boxer, Muhammed Ali, would be bigger than the previous editions.

“There will be a national title fight. Even the undercards will feature national and sub-regional champions. It will be a cracker of an edition,” he declared.

The event will feature six fights in various categories, including the main bout, which is the national middleweight title contest between Abolaji “Afonja Warrior” Rasheed and reigning champion, Sunny “King Hammer” Iyere. Two light welterweight bouts are scheduled, with one featuring Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi and Joseph “Blacky Joe” Adeniji, while the other pairs Rilwan “Baby Face” Babatunde with Shakiru “No Shaking” Lateef.

Waidi “Skoro” Usman, national and West African featherweight champion, will clash with David “Lucky Boy” Ekpeyong. In the welterweight division, Stanley “Edo Boy” Eribo, the national champion, will face Dele “Lagelu” Adeleke. The super middleweight category will see Matthew “Wizeman” Obinna up against Samuel “Lion Heart” Igbokwe.
