Ibadan Club hosts inaugural Bar, Bench tourney today

Players drawn from across the country will gather at the Ibadan Golf Club to test their skills in the maiden Bar and Bench Tournament at the home of the club, Onireke Reservation Area.

According to the organizers of the competition, the two-day event will feature more than 150 players, who mainly lawyers and judges, as well as some amateur players, who will vie for honours in different categories.

According to the captain of Ibadan Golf Club, Idowu Salami, many lawyers have indicated their interest in featuring in the competition, which is the first of its kind in the history of the club and country.

The tournament, according to Salami, is not restricted to lawyers, as it is open to members of the club and people from other professions.

The captain, who is optimistic that this year edition will bring change in the history of the club, disclosed that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the first vice President of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), the presiding judge of Appeal, Oyo State, Lawyers, Judges among others will be present.

“About 150 golfers from across the federation, Jaji, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Ilorin Golf Club, Ekiti Golf Club, Benin Golf Club, Ogbomosho Golf Club, Ewekoro Golf Club, IBB Golf Club,  MIC COM and Country Golf Club, Ada, Osun State, Smoking Hill Golf Club, Tiger Golf Club and Ikeja Golf Club, among others, will be there.

He revealed that, “Air France KLM is our major sponsored as they will be giving out tickets to the winner to visit the United States of America and AMNI Petroleum with other sponsors.

“We budgeted N10 million for the programme, but unfortunately, corporate companies are not coming forth any longer.”
