Igali banks on Oborududu, Onyebuchi, as battle for medals begins in Budapest

Eight-time African champion Blessing, Oborududu and Commonwealth silver medalist, Blessing Onyebuchi, are scheduled to battle for the qualification round in today’s fixtures of the 2018 Senior World Wrestling Championships holding in Budapest, Hungary.

In the 68kg weight category, Oborududu, a gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in Australia, is scheduled to take on Schell A. of Germany in one of today’s fixtures. Ukraine’s Cherkasova A will battle Belarus’ Mamashuk M, while Venezuela Caraballo HE S. will meet Bulgaria’s Bobeva V, as Azebanja Manolova E will square up with Italy’s Caneva D.

Other matches in the 68kg include, Kyrgyzstan’s Zhumanazarov M, who is scheduled to take on Hungary’s Wilson V, while India’s Navjot K will do battle with Chen W, as France’s Larroque K will test her strength against Korea’s Jang E. Canadian Di Bacco O will face Domikaityte D of Lituania, and Kazastan Larionova Y will face Turkey’s Altug B.

In the 76 kg weight class, Onyebuchi will begin her quest for a medal when she squares up with Mae E of Estonia, while Russia’s Bukina E will take on Kanzastan’s Syzdykova E, as Chang H of Tapei will battle India’s Kiran K.

While commenting on the chances of both Oborududu and Onyebuchi in a message to The Guardian yesterday, President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, said the girls were battle ready for the competition.

“I know they are all ready for their matches in tomorrow (today) matches from what I saw them displayed during the practice session,” he stated.
