After the fixture was postponed due to the torrential Sunday rains, MFM FC came out tops in an enthralling fixture at the Soccer Temple on Monday. The trio of Stephen Odey, Sikiru Olatunbosun and Chukwuka Onuwa ensured the Lagos-based side were just three points adrift of table-toppers, Plateau United.

Stephen Odey and Sikiru Olatunbosun further enhanced their reputation as the league’s most productive partnership as they both combined to put MFMFC ahead in the 15th minute. Odey took his goal tally to 18 goals with a beautiful finish, doubling his tally from last season.

Sikiru Olatunbosun extended the lead with a supreme left footed finish in the 29th minute with Odey turning provider this time. Fidelis Ilechukwu’s wards would have been satisfied with their performance and two-goal advantage going into the break.

FC Katsina United made the first substitution of the game 12 minutes after the break with Joseph Adah Eric Gwammy. Adah fashioned FC Katsina United’s first chance of the half, dribbling past two players and slipping Destiny Ashadi through but the forward’s effort dragged wide of goalkeeper Folarin’s post.

Ashadi would later atone with a glorious free-kick fired into the top corner in the 69th minute to halve the host’s lead. The Changi Boys made it a brace of free-kicks as substitute, Obinna Eleje equalized four minutes after coming on.
MFMFC did not have to wait long before the third of the terrific trio, Onuwa put paid to Katsina United’s effort of springing a surprise. The diminutive midfielder was on the end of a flowing attacking move, tapping in a pass from fullback, Stanley Okorom.

The Prayer Warriors held out at the Agege Stadium with fans thrilled and three points in the kitty. MFMFC next travel to Ijebu-Ode to face bottom-feeders Remo Stars.
