MFM of Lagos yesterday maintained their strong chase for the Nigerian Professional Football League title win in an away win against Remo Stars. However, league leaders, Plateau United continued their stranglehold on the table with a 2-0 victory over troubled 3SC.

Away games have not been easy for MFM, but the Fidelis Ilechukwu-led team found favour in Sagamu, where they defeated home team, Remo Stars 1-0 to remain abreast of Plateau United in the run in to the title.

Austin Ogunye scored MFM’s winner in the 71st minute to save the blushes of top scorer, Stephen Odey, who missed a penalty in the 55th minute.

The win takes MFM to 55 points, which keeps them on the second spot.

In Jos, Emmanuel Odafe and Ibeh Johnson scored in the 16th and 78th minute respectively to take Plateau United to 58 points with six matches to the end of the season.

Akwa United’s push for the title suffered a heavy blow yesterday in Maidugri, where El-Kanemi Warriors beat the Paul Bassey boys 1-0 courtesy of a Tchoanfine Pade goal in the 26th minute.

Akwa are still third on the log, but seven points behind Plateau United and four adrift of MFM, while El-Kanemi are fifth on 49 points.

Enyimba kept sight of the leaders with a 1-0 defeat of former champions, Kano Pillars, who were reduced to 10 men in Calabar.

Skipper Mfon Udoh made no mistake from the spot in the 71st minute as he put Pillars to the sword. Pillars were later reduced to 10 men when Junior Lokosa was shown a straight red card.

Enyimba remain in the fourth position with 50 points.

Elsewhere, FC IfeanyiUbah achieved a goalless draw with host, Abia Warriors, ABS forced Katsina United to a 2-2 draw in Katsina, while Wikki Tourists defeated Sunshine Stars 2-1.

In Lafia, Nasarawa United beat Niger Tornadoes 1-0, Gombe were held to a 0-0 draw by Lobi Stars, while yesterday’s heavy downpour ensured the match between defending champions, Enugu Rangers and
Rivers United was postponed. The match will be played today.
