Aminu Mohammed has been chosen as captain of the Nigerian team to the All Africa junior Golf Challenge slated to tee off on March 21 and end on March 27 at the El Kantaoui Golf Course, Sousse, Tunisia.

The four boys Team Nigeria squad also includes Oturkpo’s Odeh Alechenu, Olakunle Olalere and Paul Bamikole.

The event, held under the auspices of Tunisia Golf Federation, Africa Golf Federation and the R & A, is for boys under 18 years.

Mohammed, who is Nigeria’s number one player in the category won the 2015 NGF Awa Ibraheem Junior National Open at the Ikeja Golf Club last October. He was ranked number one in his category at the last Junior Masters held at Smokin’ Hills Golf Resort, Ilara Mokin, from December 27 to 29, 2015.

He was also one of the six boys that represented Nigeria at the Africa Championship in Kenya last August.

Alechenu is Nigeria’s number two seed, while Olalere and Bamikole, both from Ekiti State, are ranked third and fourth respectively.

An excited Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) President, Mohammed Nazifi, said the federation was happy that Nigeria would be at this prestigious event in Tunisia, adding, “Team Nigeria will be represented by the best four junior boys in that age bracket.

“Unfortunately, we will miss our very good players, Godsmark Isife, Joel Inaelegwu and Wonderful Ilori, who are ranked first, second and third in the senior boys over 18 category.

NGF Secretary, Taiwo Oriss, disclosed that the team will depart for Tunisia on Sunday aboard an Egyptair flight, adding, “it is our prayer that they will qualify for the world event scheduled for September in Mexico.”
