Coach says Eagles would have won AFCON

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has declared that the body has directed Super Eagles Manager, Gernot Rohr, to commence final preparations for the 2019 African Nations Cup and 2018 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Cameroon immediately.

NFF Media Director, Ademola Olajire, yesterday disclosed that the federation was working round the clock to organize quality friendly games to put the team in the right spirit ahead of the qualifiers.

He said the board target is planning friendly games with nations that play the same robust style of football as the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, adding that the federation’s decision to pick Senegal as one of the Eagles’ opponents in the warm up games next month was good for the team.

He stated that all modalities needed by the Eagles to qualify for the 2019 AFCON and World Cup would be provided. “We are not taking any chances at this now; that is why the body is arranging friendly games with countries that play the same pattern of football like our opponents. The NFF is totally behind the Eagles in all their campaign,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Rohr has said Cameroon would be under pressure when they clash with the Super Eagles in Limbe. He assured that the Eagles have the team to secure the maximum points in Uyo and boasted that Nigeria would have won the AFCON if they had participated.

“When we win the next game in Cameroon it will be very okay for us to be in Russia. I am always confident and I think we have a good team.
