Nigeria’s national U-19 cricketers will face Tanzania today in the second semi-final of the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup Africa Division Two Qualifier in Potchefstroom, South Africa, to book a place in the finals of the event.

Already, Coach of the side, Uthe Ogbimi has expressed confidence in his side’s ability to excel, saying the players have improved with every game in the event.

“Obviously we have a very good chance. The guys have done everything we have asked of them; with the experience we had in Uganda, we believe they can correct the errors in the batting and bowling. With that, we should be able to get through to the finals.”

Nigeria topped group B after brushing aside Ghana, Mozambique and Lesotho; with top performers including Peter Aho with five wickets for three runs in 2.4 overs and Taiwo Mohammed with 95 runs both against Ghana in the opening game.

Tanzania placed second on points from Group A after narrowly edging out Botswana. Sierra Leone top the group also with a confident display by winning all their games as well. Other countries in the group in include Swaziland and Rwanda.

Captain of the Nigerian side, “After every win we start afresh as if we have not got any victory; we leave celebration till the end of the tournament. The game against Tanzania is a fresh one for us and we would be taking it as such.”

Three teams are to qualify for the World Cup billed to hold in South Africa in 2020.
