The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has invited 23 players for a two-week intensive camping exercise ahead of the qualifiers for the 2019 Rugby World Cup slated to hold in Japan.

Technical director of the Rugby Federation, Fasimoye Olatunji, said the two-week camping, which commenced yesterday at the Main bowl of the National Stadium, Lagos, will be supervised by South African-born coach, Fabian Juries.

According to the list released by the technical department of the federation, only two foreign-based players, Christian Ogar and Okafor ThankGod, both plying their trade in South Africa, would join their home-based counterparts for the exercise.

Olatunji the players invited to camp have what it takes to give other teams a good fight for the World Cup ticket, adding, “because of the standard of our league, we have been able work hard to build our players to a standard where we believe that if we nurture them well, the players can compete favourably anywhere in the world.

“We expect all the players invited for the camp to resume training at the national stadium.”

The team is expected to depart for Morocco for the qualifiers on July 11. They will face Mauritius on July 13 before they clash with the host country, Morocco on the July 16.

Fasimoye added, “I think it’s a great deal for us because we are playing the first phase of the qualifiers for the 2019 World Cup in Morocco. Morocco, being the host nation, will not be an easy task for the team; this is why we are trying to prepare our boys in our own little way.

“Most Moroccan players play in France and they are well funded, that is why the Black Stallions need to have a two-week training camp.”

Among the invited 23 players are team captain, Ladipo Azeez, Oche Alfred, Peter Okere, Omoragieva Monday, Isa Hassan, Ayinla Hafis, George Anedi, Kura John, Afam Ifeanyi, Sani Isaac and Olawale Oladipo.
