The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) yesterday assured that the forthcoming Governor Wike National Challenge Cup will be a well organised event.

The NWF’s President, Daniel Igali told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone that from every indication, the tournament would be one of the best-funded tournaments in the history of wrestling in Nigeria.

“The Governor Wike National Championships will proceed as planned. The arrival of participants will be from November 23.

“The competition proper will commence from November 25 and end on November 30,” he said.

The Olympian added that the Local Organising Committee of the championships, and the 2018 African Championships to be hosted by Nigeria has met with the Minister for Youth and Sports.

“The minister has been briefed on the preparedness for the two competitions. He expressed his appreciation to the governor of Rivers State.”

“The minister commended Governor Wike for planning to host a tournament of this magnitude at a time in Nigeria when there is recession.

“He said that this only shows his love and commitment to reposition and make sports better in the country.

“He expressed the full backing of the ministry of sports and the Federal Government in hosting the 2018 African wrestling championships,” said Igali.
