The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Football Club were crowned 2016 FCT League champions after an incredible comeback, which saw them holding the Police Machine FC to a 1-1 draw to seal the title on goal difference.

The finals of the 2016 FCT League played at the weekend at the Area Three playing training pitch between the Police Machine FC and the NYSC, both of who were on six points, gave the youth corpers then title courtesy of a superior goals difference.

Police Machine opened scores when a defensive error by an NYSC defender resulted in a free kick converted by Michael Friday in the 40th minute of the encounter.

The Corpers, however, came out stronger in the second half of the game to overpower the Policemen, with substitute Godwin Obekpa getting the equaliser in the 62nd minutes for NYSC.

When the game ended in a 1-1 draw, NYSC were declared winners as the have scored five goals while Police Machine have only four goals from three games.

Speaking at the end of the game, an excited NYSC Director General, Suleiman Kazaure, who was represented by Director, Procurement, Yakubu John, said: “We are very happy today, as you all know the NYSC was established years ago for national unity, progress, growth and development of the nation and this indeed has been demonstrated today. It is a very great day for entire scheme family. And we shall continue to encourage them to ensure they all achieve their target goal in life.”

NYSC’s goal scorer, Godwin Obekpa, was also joyous. He said: “I am very happy scoring the goals. The goals couldn’t have come if not for team play. We played like a team and so the result is for all of us.”
