Ogun governor, Amosun rewards Paralympian, coach with N1.5m

Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun yesterday in Abeokuta rewarded Mrs. Lateefat Omolola Tijani, a Paralympian from the State who won a silver medal at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio, Brazil with a cash prize of N1m. Her coach, Mrs. Kemi Oyebola was given a cash prize of N500,000.

In addition to the cash prize, the Governor also promised to provide the Paralympian with training kits of her choice that could aid her preparation for the next Paralympic games in Tokyo 2020.

Amosun also charged the Paralympian to ensure that she wins a gold medal at the next Paralympics.The Governor who spoke when Tijani and her coach, Oyebola, presented the silver medal she won in the 45kg weightlifting category in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to the Governor, congratulated the duo and urged them not to relent on their quest for excellence.

Amosun also used the occasion to appreciate the coach, family and all those who supported Tijani to achieve the laudable feat.In her response, Tijani thanked the Governor for his “kind gesture and support for sports”, adding that with the Governor’s support, “I can assure you that I am going for the gold medal at the next Olympics.”
