Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State at the weekend received the state’s contingent to the second National Youth Games (NYG) hosted in Ilorin, Kwara State Capital. The team emerged overall winner with nine gold, seven silver and eleven bronze medals.

The governor, who commended the athletes and officials during the 56 years Independent celebration at the Cenotaph, GRA Asaba, noted that the state is blessed with purposeful youths that are committed to any work assigned to them hence he is not surprised that they have
done very well in all their events.

He however assured them that the State Executive Council will decide what they will receive as their reward to boost their zeal for more commitment. He also praised the State’s representatives at the 7TH Chief of Naval Staff Championship held at Teslim Balagun Stadium, Lagos where Delta
State won the tournament with 25 gold, 24 silver and 11 bronze medals.

He assured Deltas of his commitment to the development of every sector and part of the State while asking them to continue in their support for the administration.

Expectedly, Delta State emerged the overall winner of the just concluded second National Youth Games, tagged “Ilorin 2016” in Ilorin, Kwara State after winning nine gold, seven silver and 11 bronze medals at the end of the vents for the second consecutive time, having won the maiden edition in Abuja, 2013.

The keenly contested first position was finally taken over by the Delta State concerted effort that survived both physical and official threats from opponents and some mischievous officials that would have deliberately denied them victor only to rectify the errors after series of complaints and exchange of words that would have been completely avoided if things were done without any motive to undo anyone.
