They are seen as the geese that will lay the golden eggs. Regarded as the last bastion of hope for medals alongside the football team, the Nigerian wrestling team says they are ready to raise the country’s flags high here in Rio.

The team of Blessing Oborodudu, Mercy Genesis, Odunayo Adekuoroye, Aminat Adeniyi, Hannah Reuben, Amass Daniel and Soso Tamarau will begin their quest for medals today at the Riocentro wrestling arena.

The team being guided by Sydney 2000 gold medallist, Daniel Igali, has been perfecting his plans for success quietly and is now ready to show Nigerians the results of all the hard work.

Igali, who is the also the president of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, is upbeat that the team would come good despite the many challenges.

The team arrived in Rio without their training partners because the sports ministry could not provide the funds.
