Organisers pick nine centres for Shell Cup zonal preliminaries

Organisers of the 18th All Nigeria Secondary Schools Football Championship, also known as the NNPC/Shell Cup, has named nine centres for the zonal preliminary stage, where 37 schools from across the country will converge to compete for quarter final slots.

The zonal preliminaries, which will begin tomorrow, according to the organisers, will hold in Katsina, Minna, Jalingo, Ilorin, Uyo, Owerri, Ughelli, Akure and Osogbo.

At the end of the series of matches, 10 teams are expected to emerge for the quarterfinals that will kick off in Ijebu-Ode from May 21, 2016.

According to the pairings, Katsina will host matches involving Jigawa, Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, while Minna will be venue for games featuring Nasarawa, Katsina, Kaduna and the FCT, Abuja.

In Jalingo, Yobe will trade tackles with Gombe, Adamawa and Borno, while Ilorin will host Niger, Bauchi, Taraba and Plateau states.

Down South, UYO will host games involving Abia, Ebonyi, Rivers and Benue, while Owerri is the venue for matches featuring Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Cross River states, with Ughelli hosting Anambra, Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa.

Osogbo is the centre for Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti and Lagos teams, while Akure will is the venue for Oyo, Osun, Kwara and Edo teams.

Looking forward to a successful competition, the Nigeria Schools Sports Federation (NSSF) reiterated that states that parade mercenaries would be severely dealt with, adding that adequate measures have been put in place to detect non-bona fide students and punish any school that falls fowl of this rule.
