As preparations for the maiden Warri Peace Marathon reach a fever pitch, traditional rulers in Warri, Effurun and its environs continue to mobilise their citizens to participate in the race meant to promote peace in the region.

The Ovie of Uvwie HRM Emmanuel Sideso Abe I has thrown his weight behind the 10km race that will be held on May 28. He stated the idea behind the race was crucial to the peaceful coexistence between the communities in Warri/Effurun and its environs.

Also, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, HRM Orhue 1, pledged his backing for the event, which is the first of its kind in Delta State. The Olu of Warri had earlier declared his support and commitment to the successful running of the race.

“It is a very good development we are having the backing of the Monarchs,” said Joyce Bozimo who is spearheading the organization of the event. “They have not only pledge their support, but also promised to be at the start and finish of the race.”

The Delta State government is also backing the race and has mandated the Delta State Sports Commission to ensure full cooperation in the successful running of the event.
Already more people are picking up registration forms to participate in the race, which has various cash prizes to be won.
