Queen’s Baton Relay arrives in Nigeria today
Officials of the Sports Ministry and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) will this morning receive the delegates of the Queen’s Baton Relay at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, the NOC has revealed.
According to the NOC, the five-man delegation made up of Gideon Sam, Adam Best, Patricia Quayle, Jeremy Sutton-Hibbert and Colin Briggs will be received by Chairman of the country’s Queen’s Baton Relay’s Main Organising Committee, Mrs. Hauwa Kulu-Akinyemi.
She will be accompanied by other sports aficionados, including Olympians and Paralympians, as well as a band and dance troupe, including the award-winning Supporters Club, who will be at the airport to entertain the visitors, the NOC said.
“The Queens Baton carries a message from Her Majesty the Queen, through all nations as to call the Commonwealth to come together in friendly competition at the Games. The Queens Baton is to the Commonwealth Games what the Torch Relay is to the Olympic Games,” the NOC added.
The team will from depart Nigeria on April 5 to Nairobi, Kenya.
